The Cleveland (LCS 31) is the 16th ship in the Freedom-class littoral combat ships and the fourth ship in the United States Navy to be named in honor of the city of Cleveland, Ohio.

June 16, 2021 The keel authentication ceremony for the future-USS Cleveland was held at the Fincantieri Marinette Marine Corp. shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin.

April 15, 2023 The Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Cleveland was christened and launched during a 10 a.m. CST ceremony at Marinette Marine shipyard. Mrs. Robyn Modly, the wife of former Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas B. Modly, served as sponsor of the ship.

August 22, 2024 PCU Cleveland moored at Marinette shipyard after a one-day underway for Builder's (Alpha) trials on Lake Michigan.
