The Massachusetts (SSN 798) is the 25th Virginia-class attack submarine and the eighth United States Navy ship named for the State of Massachusetts.

December 11, 2020 The keel was laid down for the future USS Massachusetts during a ceremony at the Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia.

August 26, 2022 Cmdr. Michael J. Siedsma relieved Capt. Erik T. Lundberg as the 2nd CO of Massachusetts during a change-of-command ceremony on Naval Station Norfolk.

May 6, 2023 The Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Massachusetts was christened during an 11 a.m. EDT ceremony at Newport News shipyard. Ms. Sheryl K. Sandberg served as sponsor of the ship.

February 15, 2024 PCU Massachusetts was moved from the Module Outfitting Facility (MOF) Bay #1W to a floating dry-dock on Newport News shipyard; Launched and moored at Berth 2, Pier 6 in Newport News shipyard on Feb. 17.
