The Arkansas (SSN 800) is the 27th Virginia-class attack submarine and the fifth United States Navy ship named for the State of Arkansas.

November 19, 2022 The keel was laid down for the future USS Arkansas during a ceremony at the Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia.

December 8, 2023 Cmdr. Michael J. Huber relieved Cmdr. Vincent A. Kahnke as CO of the PCU Arkansas during a change-of-command ceremony at the Mariners’ Museum and Park in Newport News.

December 7, 2024 The Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Arkansas was christened during an 11 a.m. EDT ceremony at Newport News shipyard. Dr. Melba P. Beals, Elizabeth Eckford, Gloria R. Karlmark, Carlotta W. Lanier, Minnijean B. Trickey, and Thelma M. Wair served as sponsors of the ship.
