The Idaho (SSN 799) is the 26th Virginia-class attack submarine and the fifth United States Navy ship to be named for the state of Idaho.

August 24, 2020 The keel for the future USS Idaho was laid down during a ceremony at General Dynamics Electric Boat’s Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, R.I.

March 16, 2024 The Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Idaho was christened during a 10 a.m. EDT ceremony at Electric Boat shipyard in Groton, Connecticut. Mrs. Teresa Stackley, wife of former acting SECNAV and former governor of Idaho Sean J. Stackley, served as sponsor of the ship.

June 21, PCU Idaho moved from the assemby building at Electric Boat shipyard in Groton for the first time; Launched on Aug. 6.

March 7, 2025 Cmdr. Chad J. Guillerault relieved Cmdr. Randall J. Leslie as the 2nd CO of Idaho during a change-of-command ceremony on Naval Submarine Base New London.

November 4, PCU Idaho moored at north wing wall of Graving Dock #2 on Electric Boat shipyard after a two-day underway for Builder's (Alpha) trials; Underway again from Nov. 5-11; Umderway for acceptance trials on Dec. 3; Moored at north wing wall for a brief stop on Dec. 5; Returned to Electric Boat shipyard on Dec. 7; Moved to Pier 6S in Naval Submarine Base New London on Dec. 15.

December 15, General Dynamics Electric Boat officially delivered the PCU Idaho to U.S. Navy.

January 9, 2026 PCU Idaho departed Naval Submarine Base New London for routine operations; Moored at Trident Wharf South in Port Canaveral, Fla., from Jan. 13-26.

January 30, The Idaho recently arrived at the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) range, off the east coast of Andros Island, Bahamas; Moored at Pier 6N on Feb. 12.?
