The Michael Murphy (DDG 112) is the 62th Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer in the United States Navy. The ship is named for Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions during Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan June 28, 2005. May 7, 2011 PCU Michael Murphy was christened during a 10 a.m. EDT ceremony at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine. Maureen Murphy served as sponsor of the ship named for her late son. Cmdr. Thomas E. Shultz is the prospective commanding officer. March 9, 2012 The Michael Murphy successfully completed a combined builder’s and acceptance "Super Trial" after a four-day underway in the Atlantic Ocean. May 4, U.S. Navy officially accepted delivery of the Pre-Commissioning Unit Michael Murphy from General Dynamics during a ceremony at Bath Iron Works shipyard. |
