John Paul Jones was deployed to to western Pacific and Arabian Gulf with USS Constellation BG April - October 1997. USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) deployed to western Pacific and Arabian Gulf, from July 23, 2001 - January 19, 2002, as part of the USS Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group in support of the operations Southern Watch and Enduring Freedom. She was one of the first ships that launched Tomahawk missiles on Taliban forces in Avganistan. John Paul Jones once again deployed to western Pacific with Vinson CSG February - September 2003. July 30, 2003 she pulled to Seattle, WA., for Seafair Fleet Week 2003. May 17, 2005 USS John Paul Jones arrived in Sasebo, Japan, for a routine port visit. The ship is scheduled to participate in Exercise Talisman Sabre, a combined exercise between U.S. and Australian forces in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility. October 11, DDG 53 departed Yokosuka, Japan, for a fall underway period. The guided missile destroyer is currently assigned to the USS Kitty Hawk Carrier Strike Group and will participate in ANNUALEX 2005, an annual exercise with the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force. June 8, 2006 USS John Paul Jones pulled to Portland, Oregon, to participate in Rose Festival's Fleet Week, an annual event in which ships from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and Canadian navy transit up the Columbia River to take part in the festival. September 1, DDG 53 hosted seven civic leaders as part of the Leaders to Sea Program on Aug. 25. The Leaders to Sea program is designed to take civic, business and educational leaders to meet and share ideas with Sailors at sea. Guests were transported via helicopter from Naval Base Coronado to John Paul Jones operating off the coast of San Diego. October 1, The Navy paraded ships and aircraft through San Diego Bay to kick-off San Diego's Fleet Week celebration. Nearly 100,000 San Diegans and visitors from neighboring towns watched ships, including USS Nimitz (CVN 68), USS John Paul Jones, USS Ogden (LPD 5) and USS Princeton (CG 59) sail through San Diego Bay. October 7, The John Paul Jones entered the San Francisco Bay during the Parade of Ships, a key event during San Francisco Fleet Week 2006. December 10, USS John Paul Jones is currently conducting Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX) off the coast of southern California, with the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group. March 8, 2007 The Nimitz CSG 11, including DDG 53, took their final steps toward deployment as they completed the Joint Task Force Exercise (JTFEX) March 2. April 2, USS John Paul Jones departed San Diego in support of operations in U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. June 10, The U.S. Navy's Expeditionary Strike Group 7 ships departed Brisbane, Australia, to participate in exercise Talisman Sabre 2007 (TS07). TS07 is a joint and combined exercise demonstrating and improving on the U.S.-Australian military alliance that will feature crisis action planning and the execution of contingency response operations in land, sea and air maneuvers. For the U.S. Navy, ESG-7 assets include the Sasebo, Japan-based ships USS Essex (LHD 2), USS Juneau (LPD 10) and USS Tortuga (LSD 46) with attached escorts from San Diego, USS John Paul Jones and USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60). August 14, DDG 53, commanded by Cmdr. Christopher K. Barnes, concluded its participation in Exercise Valiant Shield 2007 off the coast of Guam, during the joint photo exercise (PHOTOEX). September 30, USS John Paul Jones returned to Naval Station San Diego after a six-month deployment in support of the global war on terrorism. January 24, 2008 USS John Paul Jones departed homeport for a surge western Pacific deployment, as part of USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group. February 28, The guided-missile destroyer pulled to Busan, Republic of Korea, for a scheduled port visit. April 24, DDG 53 departed Apra Harbor, Guam, after a four-day port call. May 3, The John Paul Jones arrived in Seward, Alaska, for a brief port call before participating in the two-week Exercise Northern Edge. |
