The Oakland (LCS 24) is the 12th ship in the Independence-class littoral combat ships and the third ship in the U.S. Navy named in honor of the city of Oakland, California.

July 20, 2018 The keel authentication ceremony for the future USS Oakland was held at the Austal USA shipyard in Mobile, Ala.

June 29, 2019 The Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Oakland was christened during a 10 a.m. CST ceremony at Austal USA shipyard in Mobile, Alabama. Ms. Kate Brandt, Google’s sustainability officer, served as sponsor of the ship.

July 20, PCU Oakland exited the assembly bay #4 at Austal's facility for the first time and was transported down river, while sitting on a deck barge, to BAE Systems Southeast Shipyard's floating dry-dock; Launched on July 21.

January 22, 2020 The Oakland departed Mobile for the first time to conduct Builder's sea trials in the Gulf of Mexico; Moored at Cruise Terminal in Mobile, just before midnight, on Jan. 23; Moved to Vessel Completion Yard on Jan. 28; Brief underway on April 2; Underway for acceptance trials from May 20-21.

June 26, U.S. Navy accepted delivery of the PCU Oakland during a short ceremony aboard the ship.

October 15, PCU Oakland (Crew 220 - Blue), commanded by Cmdr. Francisco X. Garza, moored at Vessel Completion Yard after a one-day underway in the Gulf of Mexico; Departed Mobile for the last time on Nov. 10.

November 14, LCS 24 moored at Pier 6N in Port of Cristobal, Panama, for a one-day stop to refuel; Transited the Panama Canal southbound on Nov. 15; Moored at Cruise Ship Dock 3 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, from Nov. 21-22.

November 25, PCU Oakland moored at Berth 2, Pier 5 in its homeport of Naval Base San Diego, Calif., for the first time; Underway again from Dec. 15-16.

January 28, 2021 The Oakland moored at Berth 6, Pier 4 on Naval Base San Diego after a one-day underway off the coast of southern California; Underway again from March 4-5 and March 8.

March 11, The Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Oakland moored at Navy Fuel Farm (NFF) on Naval Base Point Loma for a brief stop to refuel; Returned home on March 15; Brief underway on March 18.

March 31, PCU Oakland moored at Berth 6, Pier 1 on Naval Base San Diego after a two-day underway in the SOCAL Op. Area; Underway again from April 8-9 and April 12; Moored at Berth 22, Outer Harbor in Oakland, Calif., for a four-day port call, on April 14.

April 17, USS Oakland was commissioned during a 10 a.m. PST ceremony at Port of Oakland.

April 21, The Oakland moored at NFF on Naval Base Point Loma for a brief stop to refuel; Anchored off Coronado for a brief stop on April 22; Returned home on April 26; Underway again from May 5-6; Day-long underway for Final Contract Trials (FCT) on May 26; Underway again from June 2-3; Moored at Bravo Pier for a brief stop to onload ammo before underway on June 7; Moored at NFF for a brief stop to refuel on June 11.

From June 1?-16, the Oakland conducted operations at the Point Mugu Test Range; Brief stop at Bravo Pier before moored at Berth 5, Pier 6 on June 17; Moved to Berth 2, Pier 5 on Sept. 1.

December 3, Cmdr. Derek C. Jaskowiak relieved Cmdr. Francisco X. Garza as CO of the Oakland (Blue) during a change-of-command ceremony on board the ship.

December 13, USS Oakland moored at Bravo Pier, NAS North Island for a brief stop to onload ammunition; Underway again on Dec. 15; Moored at NFF for a brief stop to refuel on Dec. 16; Returned home on Dec. 17.

January 19, 2022 USS Oakland departed homeport for routine training in the SOCAL Op. Area; Brief stop at NFF to refuel before moored at Berth 6, Pier 5 on Jan. 20; Day-long underway on Feb. 8; Underway again on Feb. 16; Moored at NFF for a brief stop to refuel on Feb. 17; Moored at Berth 5, Pier 5 on Feb. 18.

February 26, The Rotational LCS Crew 22? (Gold), commanded by Cmdr. William J. Carroll, assumed command of the Oakland during a crew exchange ceremony on board the ship.

March 14, USS Oakland departed homeport for routine training in the SOCAL Op. Area; Moored at Wharf 311, Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach for ammo onload from March 15-17; Returned home on March 18; Underway again on May 10; Anchored at A-158 for an overnight stop on May 10; Moored at Berth 5, Pier 5 on May 11; Moved to Berth 6, Pier 5 on May 18; Underway again from May 31- June 3 and June 6-10.

June 15, The Oakland moored at Bravo Pier, NAS North Island for a brief stop before underway off the coast of southern California; Moored at Wharf 311, NWS Seal Beach for ammo onload from June 18-19; Returned home on June 20.

July ?, The Rotational LCS Crew 220 (Blue) assumed command of the Oakland during a crew exchange ceremony on board the ship.

July 19, USS Oakland (Blue) departed San Diego for its maiden Indo-Pacific deployment.

July 26, The Oakland moored at Wharf K11 on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, for a two-day port call; Moored at Delap Dock East in Port of Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands, to refuel from Aug. 3-4.

August 7, USS Oakland moored at Container Berth 1 in Port of Honiara, Solomon Islands, for a one-day visit to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal; Moored at Echo Pier in Kwajalein Atoll, Republic of the Marshall Islands, for a brief stop to refuel on Aug. 16; Moored at Uniform Wharf in Apra Harbor, Guam, from Aug. 27- Sept. 10 and Sept. 12-19.

September 26, LCS 24 moored at Berth 13S on Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan, for a scheduled port visit; Moved to Berth 12 on Sept. 30; Departed Yokosuka on Oct. 11; Moored at Army Pier, White Beach Naval Facility in Okinawa from Oct. 13-15; Transited the Verde Island Passage eastbound on Oct. 22; Transited the San Bernardino Strait northbound on Saturday afternoon.

October 25, USS Oakland moored at Army Pier on White Beach Naval Facility for a brief stop; Anchored in Subic Bay, Philippines, for a brief stop before moored at Rivera Wharf East on Oct. 29; Moved to Pol Pier for a brief stop to refuel before underway on Nov. 2; Moored at Conventional Terminal in Port of Muara, Brunei, from Nov. 5-9.

November 11, The Oakland moored at Berth 6, RSS Singapura for a 19-day port call to conduct crew exchange; Transited the Malacca Strait northbound from Nov. 30- Dec. 1; Anchored approximately 10 n.m. south of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, for International Fleet Review 2022, from Dec. 5-9.

December 12, The Oakland moored at Ao Makham Deep Sea Port in Phuket, Thailand, for a two-day liberty port visit; Transited the Malacca Strait southbound from Dec. 15-16; Moored at Berth 6, RSS Singapura from Dec. 16-27 and Jan. 3-17.

January 13, 2023 The Rotational LCS Crew 22? (Gold) assumed command of the Oakland during a crew exchange ceremony on board the ship.

January 18, USS Oakland moored at Berth 7, RSS Singapura after a one-day underway off the southeast coast of Malay Peninsula; Day-long underway on Feb. 1; Moved to Berth 6 on Feb. 7; Underway again on Feb. 26; Moored at Berth 7, RSS Singapura from March 1-26; Moored at Conventional Terminal in Port of Muara, Brunei, from April 2-6; Transited the Basilan Strait eastbound on April 8.

April 12, USS Oakland moored at Fort Hill Wharf in Darwin, Australia, for a scheduled port visit; Underway on late Thursday evening; Transited the Torres Strait eastbound on April 16; Moored at Berth 12 in Port of Cairns, Australia, to refuel from April 18-19; Moored at Doniambo Terminal in Port of Noumea, New Caledonia, for a brief stop to refuel on April 23.

April 23, The Oakland moored at Cruise Ship Terminal in downtown Noumea for a three-day port visit before participating in a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief training exercise Croix du Sud 2023; Anchored off Noumea, just after midnight, for an overnight stop before moored at Cruise Ship Terminal on April 29; Departed Noumea on May 1; Moored at Doniambo Terminal again for a brief stop to refuel on May 5.

May 10, LCS 24 moored at Berth 3, Main Wharf in Port of Lae, Papua New Guinea, for a one-day stop to refuel; Brief stop in Apra Harbor on May 17; Moored at Berth 1, Sierra Wharf in Naval Base Guam on Wednesday afternoon; Emergency sortied, due to approaching Typhoon Mawar, on May 21; Moored at Berth 1, Sierra Wharf again from May 29- June 2.

June 9, USS Oakland (Gold), commanded by Cmdr. Andrew L. Laidler, moored at Conventional Terminal in Port of Muara, Brunei, for a one-day stop to refuel; Moored at Berth 7, RSS Singapura for a crew exchange from June 12- July 3; Moored at East Berth, Cruise Terminal in Tanjung Benoa, Bali, Indonesia, from July 6-8; Moored at Fort Hill Wharf in Darwin, Australia, from July 12-13; Transited the Torres Strait eastbound on July 16.

July 18, USS Oakland (Blue) moored at Wharf 12 in Port of Cairns, Australia, for a three-day liberty visit before participating in a biennial exercise Talisman Sabre 23; Moored at Wharf 12 in Port of Cairns again on Aug. 2; Moved to Wharf 1 on Aug. 6; Departed Cairns on Aug. 11; Moored at Delap Dock East in Port of Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands, from Aug. 19-22 and Aug. 26-28.

September 3, The Oakland moored at Berth 4, Victor Wharf in Apra Harbor, Guam, for a 10-day port call; Moored at Berth 7 in Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan, from Sept. 18-27; Participated in a PASSEX with the JS Kumano (FFM 2), USV Ranger and USV Mariner on Sept. 27; Moored at Berth 3, Sierra Wharf in Apra Harbor from Oct. 1-5; Transited the Vitiaz Strait southbound on Oct. 9.

October 10, The Oakland moored at Berth 3, Main Wharf in Port of Lae, Papua New Guinea, for a three-day visit; Moored at Berth 9 in Port of Townsville, Australia, from Oct. 17-19; Transited southbound, off the coast of Brisbane, on Oct. 22.

October 24, USS Oakland moored at Fleet Base East (FBE) Berth 5 on Garden Island Naval Base in Sydney for a five-day port visit; Anchored in Jervis Bay, in support of Unmanned Systems (UxS) Integrated Battle Problem (IBP) 23.1 exercise, from Oct. 31- Nov. 1; Moored at FBE Berth 5, Garden Island Naval Base again from Nov. 3-10; Transited northbound, off the coast of Brisbane, on Nov. 12; Moored at Berth 9 in Port of Townsville from Nov. 16-19; Transited the Vitiaz Strait northbound on Nov. 24.

November 29, The Oakland (Blue) moored at Berth 4, Victor Wharf in Apra Harbor, Guam, for a three-week port call to conduct crew exchange; Moored at Delap Dock East in Port of Majuro to refuel from Dec. 27-28; Moored at Pier H3 in Pearl Harbor on Jan. 3; Moved to Pier M2 on Jan. 4; Departed Pearl Harbor on Jan. 6; Moored at Wharf 311 on Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach for ammo offload from Jan. 14-18.

January 19, 2024 USS Oakland (Gold) moored at Berth 5, Pier 13 on Naval Base San Diego following an extended 18-month deployment.

February 12, The Oakland moved "dead-stick" from Naval Base San Diego to Pier 3N on BAE Systems shipyard.
