The Jefferson City is named for the state capital of Missouri, which in turn was named for Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. The city, located in the heartland of America, is rich in heritage, known for almost two centuries as a river town. Over the years, it has demonstrated its strength and resourcefulness--a proud legacy for the first Navy ship to bear its name; Jefferson City.

SSN 759 was constructed by Newport News Shipbuilding and was commissioned on February 29, 1992. The ship changed its homeport to San Diego to join Submarine Squadron Eleven in April 1993.

In June 1994 the fast-attack submarine made it's maiden deployment to the Western Pacific with the USS Kitty Hawk Battle Group.

January 31, 2003 USS Jefferson City recently arrived at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard to begin its depot modernization period (DMP).

March 2, 2005 SSN 759, commanded by Cmdr. Daryl L. Caudle, returned to San Diego after training exercise off the coast of southern California.

May 1, 2006 USS Jefferson City returned to Naval Base Point Loma following a six-month western Pacific deployment in support of national security objectives. She made port calls to Guam, Singapore, Hawaii, Yokosuka and Sasebo.

September 11, 2007 USS Jefferson City departed San Diego for a scheduled deployment.

September 26, The Los Angeles-class attack submarine pulled into Fleet Activities Yokosuka for a scheduled port visit.

November 15, SSN 759 recently pulled to Sasebo, Japan, for a routine port call.

February 29, 2008 The Jefferson City arrived to Naval Station Pearl Harbor for its last port visit before returning to San Diego.

March 10, USS Jefferson City, commanded by Cmdr. John Zimmerman, returned to homeport after a six-month underway period. During deployment the submarine visited ports of Yokosuka, Sasebo, Guam and Saipan.

October 14, 2009 SSN 759 departed Naval Base Point Loma for a scheduled western Pacific deployment.

April 14, 2010 USS Jefferson City returned to San Diego after traveling more than 40,000 n.m. and visiting Japan, Bahrain and Singapore.

February 12, 2011 Cmdr. Brien W. Dickson relieved Cmdr. Edward L. Anderson as CO of the Jefferson City during a change-of-command ceremony at Naval Base Point Loma.

September 15, USS Jefferson City departed homeport for a scheduled deployment.

December 21, The Los Angeles-Improved class attack submarine departed Manama after a four-day visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
