July 12, 2002 A keel laying ceremony for the Navy's second attack submarine of the Virginia-class was held at 11:30 a.m. EDT at Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard. November 21, 2003 Cmdr. John J. Litherland relieved Cmdr. E. J. Ruff as commanding officer of the Pre-Commissioning Unit Texas in a ceremony at the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News, Va. July 31, 2004 PCU Texas (SSN 775) is christened in a ceremony at Newport News shipyard. First Lady Laura bush served as the ship's sponsor. Named to honor the 28th state admitted to the union, Texas is the fourth ship of the U.S. Navy to carry the name since the original Texas was commissioned in 1895. The ceremony marked the first christening of a submarine at the shipyard since 1995 when USS Cheyenne was launched. May 17, 2006 The attack submarine returned to Newport News after successfully conducting alpha sea trials. August 22, PCU Texas departed Naval Station Norfolk on its way to Galveston. On 25th she pulled to Port Canaveral, Fla. September 9, USS Texas officialy joined the Fleet during the commissioning ceremony in Galveston, Texas. The ship will be homeported in Naval Submarine Base New London, Groton, Conn. June 29, 2007 Electric Boat Corporation is being awarded a $29,817,354 modification to previously awarded cost-plus-fixed-fee contract to accomplish the maintenance, repair, alterations, testing, and other work on SSN 775 during its scheduled Post Shakedown Availability (PSA). Work will be performed in Groton, Conn., and is expected to be completed by February 2008. July 31, 2009 Cmdr. Robert A. Roncska relieved Cmdr. James L. Gray as CO of the Texas during a change-of-command ceremony at Naval Submarine Base New London. November 23, USS Texas arrived in its new homeport of Naval Station Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, after a two-month voyage to North Pole and back through Panama Canal. May 19, 2010 USS Texas departed Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam for its maiden deployment. August 23, SSN 775 returned home after a three-month underway period in the eastern Pacific, operating under the tactical control of Joint Interagency Task Force, South (JIATF-S). June 23, 2011 USS Texas departed Pearl Harbor for a scheduled western Pacific deployment. July 9, The second Virginia-class attack submarine arrived in Busan for a port visit to the Republic of Korea. November 10, USS Texas pulled into Subic Bay, Philippines, for a port visit to get tender support from USS Emory S. Land (AS 39). November 22, The Texas pulled into Fleet Activities Yokosuka for a port call over the Thanksgiving holiday. December 23, USS Texas returned to homeport after a six-month deployment. February 1, 2012 Cmdr. Andrew C. Hertel relieved Cmdr. Robert A. Roncska as CO of the SSN 775 during a change-of-command ceremony at Pearl Harbor. |
